Some films by the ending credits are meant to make an audience laugh, cry, or feel happy.  In my career as a filmmaker, I want to make movies that have people sitting in their seats days after the last credit rolled of the screen.   I want to make my audience think,  question, and discuss.  Change can only be brought about through communication.

We live in the age of communication with the advantages of the internet, facebook, skype, youtube, twitter, and the list growing every day.  And while these advancements have bridged so many diverse people, culturally and geographically, at a domestic level it has torn so many bridges down.  By this I mean, no longer do we talk face to face.  Everything is text messages, emails, and chat rooms.  Behind a screen, we are blinded from emotion.  Far and few do we know if someone is truly happy or sad.  Being devoid of emotion has created a society that is totally focused on the individual and the success of the individual.  We sometimes fear and do not trust the other, simply because we very rarely talk amongst each other, interact with our surroundings, and live as a social community.

I have been fortunate enough that my college career enabled me to travel to many places around the world.  Very commonly the happiest people whom I met abroad were the ones 24/7 lacking the high-tech gadget in their daily lives.  They may have used a cell phone here, and an internet cafe there and then, but during their ordinary day they lived simple lives.  They were not distracted by materialism and self-success, but were more concerned about maintaining friend and family relationships.  They loved to talk, meet people, and tell stories.  And they did not do it from behind the comfort of a screen.

My current goal in life is to travel the world and capture my travels through my photography.  I want to meet as many people as possible and listen to their stories, document their histories, and share their lessons we all can learn from.  Because no one culture is perfect, but each has great aspects that we all can share and respect.

The films I want to produce are documentary fictions: taken from true events, with performances from true people,   While I don’t know the answer to every question and problem in the world, and while my films won’t solve them, the discussion and communication that is derived because of it, is what I hope will spark change and innovation.  Because many minds are greater than one, especially when working together for a greater good.

While the content of my film and photography portfolio do not unanimously represent the stories I will strive to tell, my past work will show my persistence for creative, composed, and moving images with a story to tell.
